Ink, Lead & Thread came to exist by artist Jennifer Mitchell. She procured her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009. In 2005, Mitchell and colleague Chelsey House started a handmade clothing company together known as Alove Designs. Alove specialized in hand-dyed t-shirts and tote bags screen printed with custom embroidery along with custom painted shoes. Inspiration for these pieces stemmed from living in the great city of Austin and the vibe that came along with it. Alove Designs was featured in The Daily Texan as Do-It-Yourself-Designers and sold their shirts at local merchant, Storyville. The two continued to work on Alove until graduation and parted ways as House went to live in New York City to continue her fashion education and Mitchell started her career as a graphic designer and video editor. Taking experience from Alove, she created Ink, Lead & Thread with co-owner Cindy Mayfield. Cindy Mayfield has over 25 years experience in Finance and 14 years experience in Human Relations and is the backbone to the business, marketing, and sales of the company.
